E-on Protest December 5, 2008

I went along to the protest at the E-on headquaters to takesome photos for my spectacle artifact and also some of the images were going to be used for a group project we had been given. This project was discussed in one of our lectures and we were given three minutes to think of an idea that was in different media forms like, photography, TV adverts, gallery installation etc. When we split off into our other groups we decided to take some images then photoshop the banners to be pro-coal, a couple of different people in the group knew how to work photoshop pretty well so they decided to re-touch the pictures. It is slightly taking the piss but not many people seemed to be that bothered about doing this project because we have so much more other work on, so I suppose the final images could be seen as our reflection on what we thought about the protest. Its not like we aren’t bothered about the cause, we just had more important things on our minds. The other thing we decided to do was to film some interviews with people involved with the protest but then edit them to make their mouths move in Phonejacker, and then add edit over the sound with someone saying something different that was also pro-coal.

Some of the images are very patronising because these people do have very strong beliefs and would really like to make a difference, then we just go and taake some pictures photoshop them then their beliefs have been completly changed. I think if they seen these images they would be slightly annoyed! But at the end of the day it was a project for us and I think we did pretty good, we done what we were supposed to do…make them look a little silly! I would critise some off the images becuase I think I should have maybe got  bit more variety alot of them seemed to be similar, but it was hard to not get all the other people taking photos in my images, and also I felt a bit awkward going up close to these people I don’t know why but if I ever get a chance to do something like this again then I would definatley not be worried about doing that, because I think they really enjoyed being photographed. The more photos they had of them and the more people that see them is probably best, if there are more people that know about the cause then a bigger difference could be made.
