This is the one theme I haven’t been looking forward to doing. I just haven’t seemed to come up with near enough as many things as the other two. So going from my workbook I have only written about a couple of things on spectacle, and I started from the beginning by getting the meaning from the dictionary to see if I could get anything from that.

Buildings themselves are spectacles, there are so many examples there is this new one in Dubai, which is supposed to the largest building in the World being rougly more than a mile long. Other examples of spectacular buildings are ones such as:
- The Empire State
- The Eiffel Tower
- Crystler Building
- The Colosseum
- Arc de Triomphe
- Cathedrale Notre-Dame
All these buildings are pretty famous and are major tourist attractions.
Like buildings there are many places that are spectacular to visit such as New York and London, I went to New York last year to help out on a third year project and I was looking through some of my photos again. I didn’t really get to do much of the whole tourist thing because of the work we were doing. Even though I really wanted to do this I was still fascinated with the place, even though I spent most of my time in the toilets of bars! ( The project was about two people communicating with each other through graffiti in bar toilets) but I even found the graffiti to be pretty amazing as these places were covered which I believe made it more effective.

Another thing I seemed to take images of when I was there was feet when I was on the tube, I don’t know why I did it because you think that there would be more interesting things to photograph, but I think it could turn into some sort of project not too sure what.

Protests
This is a new progamme that is featured on channel 4 and started at the beggining of December. Each programme explores a different campaign some of these are:
- You smoke I choke

You smoke – I choke
“Zander Percival Hertfordshire
‘If you put a kid in the car with second hand cigarette smoke, you are basically killing them.’
I want to have smoking banned in cars that carry children under the age of 16.
I was seriously ill at age 7 as a result of car smoke. I got stuck in traffic trapped in a friend’s parent’s car. They chain-smoked and I had asthma attacks and was vomiting for three days afterwards. It was very stressful and my mum felt horribly guilty as we didn’t know they smoked.
Some countries already ban smoking in cars but in the U.K. we don’t. It’s unfair to children who have no voice or choice. I’m campaigning to get the law changed. As far as I know no-one else in England is campaigning about this. There are so many powerful anti-smoking campaigners and organizations out there. And then there’s me. I am just a small fish in a big pond. But sometimes a small fish can make a big difference.”
- Stop: Gun and knife crime

STOP: Gun and Knife Crime
“Alexander Rose London
‘I was boiling inside and looked up to the sky and thought a life had gone for no reason… I just had to do something’
I go round to schools and youth clubs talking to young people about the issues around gang culture. To make them think about what else is out there. To make them realise that they don’t have to join a gang or carry weapons.
I want to raise awareness to educate young people to STOP carrying weapons. Friends and family members have died due to this issue. I decided I just had to do something. I turned to what I knew at the time, which was graphic design, and came up with a t-shirt design and a campaign called Solve This Ongoing Problem (STOP).
I’m using positive fashion to fight the negative gangster image. I want to inspire others. I’m not special. Everyone can use what they have to do something. I’m telling you: positivity pays off. Talent + Belief = Success.”
- Bring your own coffee cup
- Random acts of kindness
- Teenage bullying
- Cyber-bullying
- Teenage Suicide
- Condoms for Africa
- Who wants to be a size zero anyway?
I believe that these are all going to be shown on channel 4 at some point over the next few weeks, but they can also be watched online. There are many more different campaigns also going on and if you are interested you can get involved online.
After seeing this advertised it made me immediatley think of this E-on protest that I went to, it was something different as I have never been to a protest before. I am bothered by all of these different campaigns but not like that much I would be part of a protest but after seeing the advert I think I may watch these programmes, they do seem quite interesting.
