This is an establishing image of a staged pin board. I thought I should take a picture of what the whole thing looked like but I much prefer the images that are close up. I just think they look better apart from the lighting.

These are a couple of the closer up images, as the viewer their first impression would probably be a parent because the images are quite old.

This is just a third of each part of the pin board to give the viewer an idea of what it looks like all together without it being obvious. Instead of just looking at the first picture, you could just look at each one of these three and try to fit them together.

After looking at these images again I don’t know if it is because they are of a smaller size, but I really like the colour in them. When the images are bigger I can just see that there is too much light from the flash but when they are smaller the colour seems to jump out.

I had trouble in finding someone with a pin board that I liked, this may be cheating but I staged it because of the trouble in finding one but also I am quite interested in staged photography as I like looking at Gregory Crewdson’s work. I know my images are extremely simple but I just wanted to show the different things that people like to keep on their pin boards as I got bits and bobs from other people. The things that people just seem to keep for memory are things like:

  • Gig/Cinema/Theme Park tickets
  • Photos
  • Leaflets
  • Train/Plane tickets
  • Bits of jewelery
  • Badges

The idea is very simple, which why I did not know whether to go with it or not as I tend to have trouble with over thinking things which I don’t think I an help. I felt a little more confident with the idea after Nick said to me that sometime the simplest ideas can be the best. The idea might not seem very good but the images may turn out to be powerful.

I don’t think that the images that I have taken are that powerful, I loaned out the Nikon D80, which I thought was an amazing camera but I didn’t quite know how to use all of the different settings on it. The main problem that I had was that I did not want to use the flash because there was shadows on the images like there is on these ones, they all just look too light like the photo has been taken in the dark. They weren’t, but when I did not use the flash the shutter speed was slow and there was an orange blurry tint on the images because of the unnatural light in the room. I did use the macro setting for some of the different images.
