Some workbook bits:

memory

I was looking back through my workbook and I dont know why I didn’t write about this in the first place! In the summer holidays I went to a local gallery called The Fishmarket in Northampton. The exhibiton that was on way by Hugh Mendes and was called ‘An Exsitential Itch’ . It was a collection of paintings on canvas of different obituaries from newspapers in the past seven years. When I first seen these I thought they were actual newspaper cuttings because the quality of them was really good and there was alot of attention to detail. Many of the people in these obituaries where people who been in the public eye or an important public figure from the past seven years. He doesn’t just do obituaries he also focused on The War on Terror, The March of Science and The Artworld but in particular he does the obituaries. He did some paintings from 9/11 which were right when you walked into the exhibition, I can’t quite remeber fully but I think it was something to do withhis graduation project being due in on that same day.

This is where all the information about his exhibition can be found:

I thought I would include this in my memory research because it is slightly relevant, when you walked into that room full of obituaries it was like death was staring you in the face sort of thing, but this room was like a diary/memory of the people who had died in the past seven years. Its a bit morbid but the room itself did have a good effect, and it must have taken Mendes forever to paint all those separate pictures.

These are a couple of examples I have found a couple of recent ones which I don’t remember seeing at the exhibition
