The only idea that I think could maybe be strong enough for a final project from last term is maybe taking further the images of the girls dressing to impress and maybe going with my origional idea of the men in suits. Showing how much power someone can emanate by just wearing a suit, then using opposing images of the same person in their normal everyday clothes.
My ideas have changed so much over these past couple of weeks, I didn’t think that I should be having this much trouble with making one of these ideas final but it has been a right pain! I am still looking around the idea of identity. I have gone from loosing your identity when your at school because of uniforms, but then when I had a tutorial I kind of contradicted myself, as when I was asked the question: What is identity? I said something that makes you different from other people, which I Suppose is my personal opinion but I think others disagreed with my idea of the loss of identity at school.
When I did my pitch I did find some of the feedback helpful, even though I pitched my ideas pretty badly. Some of the questions people asked were.
- What is the location of the images?
- Who will your subjects be?
- Could think about different cultural identities
- What is identity?
- How is it formed?
- What is it? Photos? Installation?
- Think about the different stereotypes in a school. Bully/Geeks etc
After looking at this image it gave me the idea of the people at school to have no face, this is by a guy called Danny Treacy, who I came across whilst looking through a book (Vitamin PH). I was very drawn to his images as they are very intriguing as I seemed to find myself wanting to know more about this person or thing.
This image is from a series called ‘Them’, which I really like even though I find the who idea surrounding it very strange as he will go to isolated areas and pick up objects that have been left there by people. Nobody knows why these items of clothing have been left there but this is something that he says he can project upon.
“If I find a pair of knickers in a car park, the reasons for them being there are quite obvious, but there are other more passive items of clothing that allow me to project my fantasy of how they arrived.”
So his images was one of my influences but my idea is nothing like this anymore, which I think shows I am going through a process of elimination maybe, because I have considered the end product and thought about it not working.
